So, I think we all know of my love for Shiny Happy World by now. I made Mom a cute little zip top purse from a fantastic tutorial on Crafter.org, using an adorable little applique from Shiny Happy World. "Anywhere Bear". Links below to each!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiog-T2PiuTOMlS9sOasfArMRFGUwJ2LnMEe-IUMAKY9EML0PgGWeEqcKbUOQjwhZmgsFseYZKzSuQ7SOT6wgSd0tARbth23ybNbYqjv3Q0SesqrgEE92uizJLS1cfYEAsqBHTq0DFow8/s1600/image(3).jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiog-T2PiuTOMlS9sOasfArMRFGUwJ2LnMEe-IUMAKY9EML0PgGWeEqcKbUOQjwhZmgsFseYZKzSuQ7SOT6wgSd0tARbth23ybNbYqjv3Q0SesqrgEE92uizJLS1cfYEAsqBHTq0DFow8/s320/image(3).jpeg" width="239" /></a></div>
Here is the front of the purse on the non zip side. I did a raw edge applique on all of this, and hand stitched the balloon detail and strings.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDdodXNHqwdCairrFbertXsmdWe_XtqljfF-jGWBTEg45PxWdvoeDuilQJ4MD0sqokJtA6SF3eVygbrlJlYGUE9XRWmAaK_5RP6HRYon7_sHQCx0za0Yt8JRH8O9tuL1la_YPR3p_jDcI/s1600/image(4).jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDdodXNHqwdCairrFbertXsmdWe_XtqljfF-jGWBTEg45PxWdvoeDuilQJ4MD0sqokJtA6SF3eVygbrlJlYGUE9XRWmAaK_5RP6HRYon7_sHQCx0za0Yt8JRH8O9tuL1la_YPR3p_jDcI/s200/image(4).jpeg" width="149" /></a>And here is the back. Same balloons, and hand stitched details, but this side has the zipper.<br />
<br />
Not pictured is the recessed zipper, but let me assure you, it wasn't hard to do. And I'm a total zipper noob. They terrify me, and I feel like I'm flying off into the great unknown every time I install one. lol. But honest, it was super easy.<br />
<br />

You know I have this fascination for them. 2 of the one's I made (just like those pictured below) are on their way to new homes in Texas, as we speak(or type)!<br />

These were both made from the same pattern as my Eyeball pin cushion, (<a href="http://wendigratz.blogspot.com/2012/05/free-pattern-dimples-pincushion.html">Dimple Pin Cushion</a>), of course from my fave website, lol.<br />
<br />
I had some left over Marvel Super Hero fabric from when I made some appliqued towels this last Christmas, so I fussy cut Spidey and the Hulk, and made 2 super cute pin cushions. I even weaved a crochet thread web on the Spidey one. And the Hulk got strategically placed buttons on his biceps, lol. Both backs are red, tho there are 2 yellow buttons on the back of the Hulk that look a little like Mickey's britches. lololol.<br />
<br />
And there you have it! That was this last weeks adventures. Though I am still fussy cutting and making super hero pin cushions with the rest of my scraps, lol. Thanks for reading! <3<br />

So there was this fabulous tutorial on <a href="https://www.fabric.com/Index.aspx">Fabric.Com</a>, one of my fave places to buy fabric, for <a href="http://blog.fabric.com/2012/03/mickey_pants_cafe_curtains.html">Mickey Mouse Pants Cafe Curtains</a>. So of course when Mom & Dad recently redid their kitchen, we had to make them! The original plan was for both windows to be Mickey, but we decided after finishing the first that it would be super cute to make Minnie for the other. I had just the perfect fabric on hand. All we needed to do was add a little bit of eyelet lace to the bottom, and WAH LAH! Minnie! Thanks bunches to Fabric.com for the fantastic tutorial. =)<br />

(<a href="http://wendigratz.blogspot.com/">Shiny Happy World</a>) Well, Wendi, the author of the blog posted a FABulous tutorial on making a pin cushion, (easy for beginners too!) which I simply HAD to try...AND <does a little happy dance> she featured my eyeball version of it!! Yes...Eyeball...I know...I have issues...lol<br />

<br />
Alrighty, welcome to the tutorial!! This is super easy. Mostly done with mats on hand. I bought a package of 4 cork board placemats from Ikea for less than $3 a few weeks ago. I still have another 2 of these that I plan on making into another bulletin board, in an as of yet unimagined theme!! lol<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHaPpTpC4HB1mItOiLUL7H5-TFiZYW_BGKx1woA0odxeyTh4vurmLQCg6aWMEJflc4awu6oqGDus8s2YVaIf-kcESbATzmF2p_P2k6mKk5K-NxYT84hcEbRIqc7ExjslByuEcsuD1Qvr8/s1600/IMG_6529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHaPpTpC4HB1mItOiLUL7H5-TFiZYW_BGKx1woA0odxeyTh4vurmLQCg6aWMEJflc4awu6oqGDus8s2YVaIf-kcESbATzmF2p_P2k6mKk5K-NxYT84hcEbRIqc7ExjslByuEcsuD1Qvr8/s320/IMG_6529.jpg" width="320" /></a><br />
I had some foam board tossing around, purchased for a poster mounting project gone desperately awry, and because I almost never throw anything away, lol. I fear being exposed on hoarders one day!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiygWZdCLiLj44U7Fr9s05pmGPqYGH8CbrctQnU-mTB4PvEIOKoFmC1OXkLUeo8ZpdQdE0dSRCFLYbu2w7TiYLmW7clHgcRqGhSnOyFhWPUEQCCMQokRWAavoA55geLNG7EVQxR8h3ofJM/s1600/IMG_6531.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiygWZdCLiLj44U7Fr9s05pmGPqYGH8CbrctQnU-mTB4PvEIOKoFmC1OXkLUeo8ZpdQdE0dSRCFLYbu2w7TiYLmW7clHgcRqGhSnOyFhWPUEQCCMQokRWAavoA55geLNG7EVQxR8h3ofJM/s320/IMG_6531.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
So I glued the 2 cork boards together with E-6000, placed them on a flat board, put a flat of water on top of it, and let it dry over night. In the mean time I outlined and cut out the foam board, so I could glue it on the next day. Then back to the flat board and flat of water on top for another night.<br />
<br />
<---You can also see here that I marked the area on the board where I wanted my holes to hang it from. Dad came up with the fantastic idea of using a leather punch to punch out the holes!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh32tOSYKbyBxO1lMkurhuTNdFosPksBsajVc8vM5q0fxmRYht62Ht-zZvvVt2Kd8cfPgtkiYBOaM9wcVMi3nccvndXr1cpQOXS-ibmrzqtZFb3gsDBazoTw4TJSJ2sJd5DsTj70bnLPmA/s1600/IMG_6532.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh32tOSYKbyBxO1lMkurhuTNdFosPksBsajVc8vM5q0fxmRYht62Ht-zZvvVt2Kd8cfPgtkiYBOaM9wcVMi3nccvndXr1cpQOXS-ibmrzqtZFb3gsDBazoTw4TJSJ2sJd5DsTj70bnLPmA/s320/IMG_6532.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Using painters tape, I positioned the fabric where it would be glued, then flipped the board over, lined up my trim on top and bottom, and used Aleene's fabric glue to stick it in place.<br />
<br />
This is a fabric scrap with Mickey Mouse icons all over it. My apologies for not knowing who to credit on that, other than the obvious Disney Co. Clearly any fabric can be used to do this project, but mine would be ending up in a Disney decorated kitchen, so it was PERFECTO!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkxlgJRbK7z6VTIWNvQaBkmD-ghJFoTZzPb5N2wf6DvkmwUNjofvmZQql-9smjUhL53rTCHsxSm-APQR9d6ipNY9tDA5vO0VgtTtXgFd8Id6Vx0syC56ff0OI-2hjtDMGOgtnrgKVYw1M/s1600/IMG_6533.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkxlgJRbK7z6VTIWNvQaBkmD-ghJFoTZzPb5N2wf6DvkmwUNjofvmZQql-9smjUhL53rTCHsxSm-APQR9d6ipNY9tDA5vO0VgtTtXgFd8Id6Vx0syC56ff0OI-2hjtDMGOgtnrgKVYw1M/s320/IMG_6533.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I didn't use the flat of water that night, but I did let the fabric glue on the trim, dry over night before proceeding.<br />
<br />

Almost done! I went back to E-6000 and glued the fabric down on the back side, using painters tape to keep it secure...This picture is with it partially glued. I still had 2 corners to finish. As I glued, I just used painters tape over the top to hold it in place...and then...you guessed it!! Back to the board, and flat of water over night!! lol<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

Here we are all glued together, looking sharp. All that is left to do is cut small slits in the trim (Which is ribbon from Walmart, by the way, by Disney Co.) to pull the black grosgrain ribbon through, which will be used to hang your bulletin board.<br />
<br />
This method worked for the materials I used, but this can certainly be altered to whatever method you are using to hang your new masterpiece!! I debated several methods before deciding on the ribbon. <br />

Since it's not going to get a lot of use coming out of or going into those slits, I don't really think it's necessary to do it, but I'm a perfectionist freak sometimes, lol.<br />

And here we are completed, easy peasey! And I assure you it doesn't take all night for either of the glues to dry. I was working this into doing other projects as well, which is why it sat over night each time I glued. I feel confident that one single over night stint with a flat of water or something heavy would be no issue. hehe. Just follow the instructions on your glues and you will be fine!! <br />

Thanks bunches for reading, and happy crafting!<br />

I debated for a long time How I was going to attempt it. First it was a very simple. Submerge Han Solo in cake and frost it. Then I decided that wasn't good enough, and started researching others who had paved this path before me. Since modeling fondant is uber expensive and I had to create this in 2 days, lol...I went the rice crispy treat method!!<br />

Then frost!! I made grey frosting...which is more of a pain in the butt than you might think. The insanely expensive "black" stuff we got to dye the frosting, ended up a lovely shade of lavender...Needless to say I was REALLY ANNOYED. At the last minute we actually went to the local grocery store and bought a tube of black frosting intended for writing words or details on a cake. And wahlah!! Grey cake frosting. Easy Peasy...mostly lol.<br />

Return of the Crafter...I figure I really ought to get in the rest of the Star Wars craft posts today, given that it is Star Wars day and all...In addition to the ever so geeky bedding array, I also made a couple of other things I'd like to share.<br />

This is a super plush towel that my cat had been sleeping on. It was on the stack of things I really need to finish before Matt's birthday, and she adopted it as her place to sleep when she isn't on the back of my chair keeping my shoulders warm.<br />

I wish the pics were a little clearer, but It's the same Imperial symbol as on the comforter, but smaller and using 2 Robert Kaufman space fabrics. There is also a strip of the red fabric at the top and bottom of the towel in the area where there is usually some racing stripe of interest stitching.<br />
<br />
I wonder undered the 2 pieces together for the Imperial symbol, and then stitched it onto the towel. Not EVERY little space is stitched but the main center area and the outside edges are. We shall see how that holds up! lol Matt's great for letting me experiment my man scientisting ideas, as well is Mom. lol. The racing stripes on top and bottom were just stitched on after ironing under a 1/4" seam on each side. Super simple!!<br />

Here we are about 1/2 way done. I used 3 different grays on this and stitched it on black fabric. Looking back on it now, if I ever did another one, I would have gone with a dark to mid grey to stitch on. But, that said, I'm really pretty happy with the end result, and Matt loved it.<br />

Here we are with the magic Hogwarts transfer stuff all washed away. In addition to this being stitched, I also got grey glow fabric paint made by Tulip and added some highlights as a surprise when the lights are turned out. The outer edge of the Death Star, the outer round of the eye, and the 2 horizontal lines through the middle are all painted grey over the stitching (which matched) and glow when the lights go out. <br />

THEN I decided to mount the it on a thin piece of cardboard and make it an applique for a larger piece. Which lead to stenciling a space for it to be attached...AND to a silhouette of the Millenium Falcon in the lower left...AND it's all stenciled with Random Glowy Fabric Spray stuff...(forgive me...I don't recall the name and I don't have it before me at the moment but it was near all the fabric paints at Jo-Ann's and is permanent until washed. Assuming that this won't ever be washed, I figured I was safe lol.)<br />

Sooooo the final product is this!! Glowing monstrous Death Star of stitched doom with silhouetted Millenium Falcon...this image is so much better than the framed version due to ever so much less glare when I took the pic. It was dark and I swear every light in the house was on to illuminate the very intense construction of the Lego Millenium Falcon... <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDPyv724n8ArjDNPhgUma_MhD7704wxBXsl5zWuhRxpNqYFxhsX5uvn8LaoL9aNx9P3JNq_dXXZn0PhV-9VfkkRhE-pwOljtARbLXMPczUtqhD_09AxYakZk_THrIYxNAa3pnHpEXdjXo/s1600/photo(3).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDPyv724n8ArjDNPhgUma_MhD7704wxBXsl5zWuhRxpNqYFxhsX5uvn8LaoL9aNx9P3JNq_dXXZn0PhV-9VfkkRhE-pwOljtARbLXMPczUtqhD_09AxYakZk_THrIYxNAa3pnHpEXdjXo/s400/photo(3).JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
And here is the slightly blurry, framed final version, glare and all, next to an adorable light saber candle stick. (Purchasable from http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/collectibles/e9fe/?srp=4)<br />
<br />
The image of the death star is about 8x8 to give you some perspective on size. And the Death Star looks more ominous a stitching project than it really is. I stitched it in about 3 days, but it only took that long due to the fact I MUST take breaks every 20 - 30 mins to rest my arms. So honestly, it's a very easy project for someone who doesn't have damaged arms or hands, I promise!!<br />
<br />
Thanks for reading, and happy crafting!!<br />

For the last few weeks I have been preparing a Star Wars themed birthday extravaganza for Matty Watty. Below are just a few of the things I was up to...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjh3XpOdcV0eX0PLVI64NbZuwsC_3cqf4XtcsXDQIVN81MDp_bwuloDmYBLbaotDB9GV-_l2IqBpE8LHSPz4PUIwh0VH0MfmMctdcBfJhvnhRFS2S1SyYHP8ycjWCLxXdQuHkRjI4NqEeo/s1600/photo%252828%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjh3XpOdcV0eX0PLVI64NbZuwsC_3cqf4XtcsXDQIVN81MDp_bwuloDmYBLbaotDB9GV-_l2IqBpE8LHSPz4PUIwh0VH0MfmMctdcBfJhvnhRFS2S1SyYHP8ycjWCLxXdQuHkRjI4NqEeo/s1600/photo%252828%2529.JPG" /></a></div>
The concept is like that of a rock bands "property of METALLICA" type painted tagging on all of it's precious cargo. <br />
<br />
First off...The comforter. I found a variegated grey striped comforter, bed in a bag deal at Walmart. $49 for a king size. The back of the comforter was dark grey, but not so dark as to not work for my project.<br />
<br />
2nd, I found an imperial symbol online and printed it to be 40 pages enormous, gather up my faithful assistant Gwennie (as pictured), and took to cutting out my 4 foot round Imperial symbol.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqO_wpUmxF120UP3aMFDF68WFtTKL_yKcQiyNxNY3bL7BGsOzkjwa4uJmTDHv2rZDHQh9LjkbInvKku3WqAqgkLQrZAWVx902hDRNRFeETj23B6877fM0QRHvfPP5Pr58KU8GcGI_Wfm0/s1600/photo(31).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqO_wpUmxF120UP3aMFDF68WFtTKL_yKcQiyNxNY3bL7BGsOzkjwa4uJmTDHv2rZDHQh9LjkbInvKku3WqAqgkLQrZAWVx902hDRNRFeETj23B6877fM0QRHvfPP5Pr58KU8GcGI_Wfm0/s1600/photo(31).JPG" /></a></div>
Before I actually cut out the cogs, I took the huge layer of printer paper only imperial symbol and spray glued it to thicker drawing pad paper, so that it didn't just curl up on me when I went to spray it.<br />
<br />
Also, not pictured, is the stencil for the "property of" written and xactoed out in Star Wars heiroglyphics which you will see situated in a later pic on the comforter when I go to spray.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii21CYG7M-9rC-j9KWUQbxs3IVECqDh4XXdicrkO7_PY0Ex6oDqGMr4cyHlWx5hDD8-joGT8CQHgCUJKDksG3R2brwj-CK_rILfzn-28WdY-T-NJs3wPGRyduc2hl2RFqsvOeM1f542yE/s1600/photo(27).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii21CYG7M-9rC-j9KWUQbxs3IVECqDh4XXdicrkO7_PY0Ex6oDqGMr4cyHlWx5hDD8-joGT8CQHgCUJKDksG3R2brwj-CK_rILfzn-28WdY-T-NJs3wPGRyduc2hl2RFqsvOeM1f542yE/s1600/photo(27).JPG" /></a></div>
The final decision on placement ended here! You can see the Property Of stencils just to the left of the Imperial symbol. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUox04HID00m-kdRN_Y_YpMKue-thW5NCWH8uAOk0Nz0trlWdkR_mrZs6ChXhy5V8OfA-H5EzCXJABs7EeMfkx41syX5kDzsq0582Lmrhp8OiobSfCuSXvSqBZXmie2fejGh5Wy9SjpOw/s1600/photo(25).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUox04HID00m-kdRN_Y_YpMKue-thW5NCWH8uAOk0Nz0trlWdkR_mrZs6ChXhy5V8OfA-H5EzCXJABs7EeMfkx41syX5kDzsq0582Lmrhp8OiobSfCuSXvSqBZXmie2fejGh5Wy9SjpOw/s1600/photo(25).JPG" /></a></div>
And then I used Tulip brand fabric paint spray in red. Matt has a thing
for Darth Vader, so we went with red instead of classic white, which I
think gave it a really fantastic subtle look. I don't know if many of
you geeks have attempted to find sheeting or bed spreads that are King
Sized and Star Wars, but there is a distinct lack of them, hence this
enormous project LOL.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdaAZrymuBZrhq3P6adM5tHA9WXYTei5NARW1XA3_vLkIPZiTBh_4sz7ByVU_F9DmHOg-IQ35I25GUkR1VPh9mwAOpuY2X6c_oKZpg9y5AHym1jcojPNIuYOkuwcleiUg7Jw9x_07YUiA/s1600/photo(6).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdaAZrymuBZrhq3P6adM5tHA9WXYTei5NARW1XA3_vLkIPZiTBh_4sz7ByVU_F9DmHOg-IQ35I25GUkR1VPh9mwAOpuY2X6c_oKZpg9y5AHym1jcojPNIuYOkuwcleiUg7Jw9x_07YUiA/s320/photo(6).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
And here are the finished product pics. One on the bed, and one still sitting in the sun drying. The pic inside is just the WORST possible lighting. Sorry for that. If you can see in the far corner of the room near the window, I also stenciled the packages for his birthday with the Imperial symbol.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBDQe89KUXn7_GwITOefkB2xvZCtyoy5qNTcBBjdApB7AVvFckafQ_vilWa7n_a0zh3W1ap0yyrVpCr1okdIQ1_8go3qRmZ150yPPijyxb3FVAY24K_WV6L0STyGJjPE3hgWOJWc3pHmY/s1600/photo(24).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBDQe89KUXn7_GwITOefkB2xvZCtyoy5qNTcBBjdApB7AVvFckafQ_vilWa7n_a0zh3W1ap0yyrVpCr1okdIQ1_8go3qRmZ150yPPijyxb3FVAY24K_WV6L0STyGJjPE3hgWOJWc3pHmY/s320/photo(24).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I let this sit in the sun after it was sprayed for about 6 hours, on a very strange but fortunate 90 degree day wedged between raging rain and thunder storms. WEIRD weather this year. lol BUT YAY for sun on this day.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMO44DG6fiPzw9ET4zBFDdwVNx7hIf-0CQs0HN690VgSLooI8EnySm53HXKZU3Z8n-GGPAbQW7OsNW7HIFGJK5iPDEYAVr9vmjTHK-YwM131NW7ATQxxj3zkT3wwlPcz2GDUq4xafTPgw/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMO44DG6fiPzw9ET4zBFDdwVNx7hIf-0CQs0HN690VgSLooI8EnySm53HXKZU3Z8n-GGPAbQW7OsNW7HIFGJK5iPDEYAVr9vmjTHK-YwM131NW7ATQxxj3zkT3wwlPcz2GDUq4xafTPgw/s1600/photo.JPG" /></a></div>
I also stenciled the pillow cases and shams, as well as the bed skirt. (Sorry no pic of the bedskirt)<br />
<br />
All in all the longest amount of time spent was on cutting out the huge stencil for the main image. The rest was cake.<br />
<br />
A few things I would recommend tho. One is to use cardboard at least as thick as a cereal box for your smaller stencils. Otherwise they will curl up on you after your first spray. I made some Imperial geek chubby girl undies and discovered one thin printer paper sheet is simply not enough!! lol<br />
<br />
I would also recommend experimenting with your spraying technique. I started with the back of one of the shams to be used to get a feel for how it sprayed and how heavy a spray I would need to get it to show on the dark fabric.<br />
<br />
And lastly, get someone to help you. As simple as this project is, you don't want something as silly as a slight breeze to mess things up for you. Fortunately my Mom is quite an amazing assistant, despite whatever strange new project I come up with, she's always there to help.<br />
<br />
Thanks for reading!! And happy crafting!!<br />

Wendi Gratz is the blogger behind it all, and she is amazeballs. Though the site is not exclusive to beginners for either hand or machine stitching, it is hands down <b>THE</b> <b>site</b> I recommend to all my friends who are just starting out, either for themselves or with their kids. There is something there for everyone. Patterns for darling projects that are either free or more than reasonably priced, and tutorials for it all. If there is a pattern on the site, you will find appropriate tutorials for all of the skills you need to complete it.<br />
<br />
Wendi loves to see what people make with her patterns, and a little ways back I bought the Bailey Bear pattern from her. For Valentine's day I made 2 of her sweet little bears. Well, I shared my geeky versions with her, and much to my OMG SQUEEEEEEEEEE delight, she decided to feature them today!!! Click <b><a href="http://ht.ly/9XbLz">here</a></b> to see the post featuring my versions of her pattern! /nerddance. Needless to say I'm just a little excited. <br />
<br />
<b><a href="http://wendigratz.blogspot.com/index.html">Shiny Happy World</a> </b><-----This is the part where I shamelessly plug Wendi's blog. GO NOW!! Check it out. I promise you it's amazing. I havn't posted pics here yet because I want you to go look at her
site. I can't say enough awesome things about it. =)<br />
<br />
Alright!! That's my post for today!! Please show Wendi some love!! And thanks so much for featuring me Wendi!!! I am positively honored. <3 SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!<br />

I love classic & Next Gen best of all, so I guess it's no surprise that I gravitate toward people that are rather geeky. (I also highly recommend for you fellow Next Gen geeks, <b><a href="http://wilwheaton.typepad.com/">Wil Wheaton's Blog</a></b>. Absolutely on the top of my blogs Adi follows list.)<br />
<br />
For my bestie's birthday 2 years ago, I made a Dell Mini laptop case, which later became his iPad case lol. There were a few things I had in my head design wise...This first pic was one of them. First off, it HAD to be Spok blue. There is no one in my life more Spok like than my bestie, LOL. I thought it would look really sharp if I could pull off an Enterprise silhouette. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgurwcEr1LUwN6CjfCM6BmgLiR69WO0gKgDfE_PmCvqJ7HlCZtyhEbA7iB_twh0NBe7ZjMe_dsuerp4DrFsmTN9fP30wp-QisomfjcikyhH2xQALvEAvYhg03PA5mRECfQhqkCynvVkcj4/s1600/IMG_1853.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgurwcEr1LUwN6CjfCM6BmgLiR69WO0gKgDfE_PmCvqJ7HlCZtyhEbA7iB_twh0NBe7ZjMe_dsuerp4DrFsmTN9fP30wp-QisomfjcikyhH2xQALvEAvYhg03PA5mRECfQhqkCynvVkcj4/s320/IMG_1853.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I LOVED how it turned out, but then...I got the idea to fashion it loosely after the collar of the uniform shirts. and of course if there was going to be a collar, then there had to be an insignia. Which sadly meant that the silhouette I had spent so much time hand stitching on, had to go. =(<br />
<br />
The symbol itself wasn't too hard to make. I looked up the science insignia online, and decided to go with the blue on black as opposed to gold lame' for example...lol. The insignia was Wonder Under-ed on, but then hand stitched on top.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQgKobU7M8nRDbLj8Em5mgzVZMtsAuuL4A5D3yBT-RqICo4Xkcy6dX8y8iqkpmFBBD2a8_bmY22gn-jUmoIODSm6pzqp4WnMYWFQogZ3cSOqzcpM2e-dl_QyQjCgZXSlsC4NzsV5HpEwk/s1600/IMG_1855.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQgKobU7M8nRDbLj8Em5mgzVZMtsAuuL4A5D3yBT-RqICo4Xkcy6dX8y8iqkpmFBBD2a8_bmY22gn-jUmoIODSm6pzqp4WnMYWFQogZ3cSOqzcpM2e-dl_QyQjCgZXSlsC4NzsV5HpEwk/s320/IMG_1855.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>
The inside was just some cool space fabric that I had laying around. Surprise surprise...I have a lot of space fabric laying around. That particular fabric is about 10 years old, I couldn't even tell you the maker unfortunately. The perfect Spok color was actually found in the felt stash, and I did a very simple velcro closure, which seems to have held up quite well thus far.<br />
<br />
The construction of the whole project might have been 3 hours just based on my hand stitching. The pouch itself was very basic, as it was one of my first projects beyond pillow cases. No boxed corners. Just simple square pouches, sewn one inside the other with the closure flap sandwiched in the back. <br />
<br />
Because I was on a Star Trek spree at the time, I forged ahead and made my first HUGE laptop case, matching scarf, and iPhone case for my favorite model of all things I create, Matt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbmp5Fq7KWhBI9-FsCQgieonkfS0VfvCTyS5aGBkB4L2klg8-Ayh_ltt47k5xiBU8R8I45_suw_kJnFsdLXpAoR1ty4hCOAZLyjnP7SYvJop2OERg2OVIRBP9xW7_IoWywXz5y0HzglZg/s1600/IMG_2159.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbmp5Fq7KWhBI9-FsCQgieonkfS0VfvCTyS5aGBkB4L2klg8-Ayh_ltt47k5xiBU8R8I45_suw_kJnFsdLXpAoR1ty4hCOAZLyjnP7SYvJop2OERg2OVIRBP9xW7_IoWywXz5y0HzglZg/s320/IMG_2159.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Same basic design, but his fave is Scottie, so the insignia has the engineering symbol instead of the science symbol. (Yes that is a talking Gandalf doll in the background, with a map of Middle Earth hanging above him, in my utterly thrashed play room lol.)<br />
<br />
Apparently I didn't take uber detailed pics either close up, or inside the laptop case, but the guts are the same as the smaller Spok version, same basic construction. The cases are both felt, same construction with the insignias, and the scarf is super soft fleece. And thus, momentarily ended my Star Trek crafting spree. Matt's laptop case gets an extraordinary amount of use so it will need to be retired soon. The perfect opportunity for a tutorial on a new geeky version!!<br />
<br />
I'm really looking forward to Monday's Big Bang Theory. Leonard Nimoy is guesting. He's posted lots of cute pics with the cast on Twitter. <b> <a href="https://twitter.com/#%21/therealnimoy">One of my fave tweeters</a></b> in the Twitterverse!! He just turned 81 this week, and is quite in touch with his fan base via Twitter, despite not making anymore appearances at cons etc as of last year. He's really quite an interesting man, I highly recommend following him!! May he live long and prosper!<br />
<br />
Alright, overloaded with geekiness yet? Hehe. Thanks for reading & happy crafting!<br />

So as I mentioned, I'm pretty much self taught. I grew up watching my Grandmothers sew, but never did projects on my own until I was much older. And until recently, I never used patterns. I made it up as I went. lol. I made a few tank tops in high school just from tracing them onto the fabric, sewing the sides together and hemming everything. Of course that was also pre-boobies so I didn't need anything as complicated as a dart, lol. I just totally winged it!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Back in present day tote time... I think to my self one afternoon...Self...how much
more difficult can it be than making a pillow case? It can't be that hard! Well...It IS pretty
simple, but a few little things would have made it a pretty outstanding
bag. <br />
<br />
Interfacing for starters, would have solved almost ALL of this bags
issues. Really it's the primary reason I felt the bag wasn't so much a
success as a fizzle, lol. Neither the body or the bag, or the strap has
it, and as a result, it just doesn't have the weight of a nice sturdy
tote. I also hadn't yet learned to box corners, which would have been a
nice little feature. Design wise, I would have also broken up the busy pattern with some solids on the outside. All in all though, I'm not too critical of the bag as a whole. I went into it expecting to make mistakes and learn, and I did, so it served it's purpose.. and now you too can learn from my mistakes!! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgq0T_kwLZBunxWo2tkU7gL6_-yREisT2nnbxIvDdBkCnfvhBNYrjO1KT_TSsKvqxyhW8WlQW71_3qgUeiMAFUZa3tKn2meKUXMbNac9cquh3i6uHlprksA0R4n3NiG73VCq3okIbzckZ0/s1600/IMG_1931.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgq0T_kwLZBunxWo2tkU7gL6_-yREisT2nnbxIvDdBkCnfvhBNYrjO1KT_TSsKvqxyhW8WlQW71_3qgUeiMAFUZa3tKn2meKUXMbNac9cquh3i6uHlprksA0R4n3NiG73VCq3okIbzckZ0/s320/IMG_1931.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
It's absolutely functional regardless of it's mildly tragic construction, holds a ridiculous amount of groceries, and the funny looks
from the clerks when they realize it has classic movie monsters on it is priceless.
Tee hee!!<br />
<br />
One thing I felt I did really well was fussy cut the Frankenstein inner pocket. I thought it would be funny to have him reaching out of the bag at me every time I looked in!! lol. (The fabric BTW is Robert Kaufman, Monster Mash. I believe it is OOP, but you can still find it on eBay.)<br />

Thanks for reading! And happy crafting!Adiarrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00877958153618883462noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2012233591122792030.post-45449676704261148302012-03-22T13:38:00.000-07:002012-12-26T15:40:08.455-08:00Pillow Talk...Pillowcases were the next passion in my sewing evolution. I won't bore you with the ridiculous number of them that I made, but I will share a few of my faves. No personal tutorial here, as there are lots of fantastic tuts already. Here are 2 links for my faves though, and a link for the million pillow case challenge.<br />

I made one for myself first so I could work out the kinks. I needed to remember what the heck I was doing, and get back in the swing of things...I'm sorry the pic isn't the best, but the fabric itself is black with little witch hats all over it, an orange swirly accent strip, and then a cute Haloween print with lots of little sayings.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWKgFAwvJRFfYAVI-n1SlEK-iUPJPM-FCWOSGO-at8d5brbZi4pPglEKB0wRLhdsdGEnfKX7rklBce-nrJoikb-Dqtm8rmUg0EHDdWc5LgGuqQDPCmq8zZmPrq4S0fr_seIK6fSaSODZ0/s1600/IMG_1554.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWKgFAwvJRFfYAVI-n1SlEK-iUPJPM-FCWOSGO-at8d5brbZi4pPglEKB0wRLhdsdGEnfKX7rklBce-nrJoikb-Dqtm8rmUg0EHDdWc5LgGuqQDPCmq8zZmPrq4S0fr_seIK6fSaSODZ0/s320/IMG_1554.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The second one was for my Mama. She loves The Beatles, and this fabric was SO happy and bright. She really loved it. The accent strip on this one is magenta with subtle flowers, and then the tail is lady bugs or...beetles!! that matched the bright colors in the band name PERFECTLY! Usually when I make these, I try to make it capture that person’s personality. And even though it’s not your run of the mill white pillowcase, my intention is to make an every day useable pillowcase that’s unique and fun.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiImksd9QDr9ddTcQypvrt1E6GNEPU5DCSdKTwBXvS6LDZ05BLu_hyS5QxdXDgh5fG-uiQfYcb9cQZXJ6h-uTNOVZ6RXlhiGmltSkAx8yL-I_r6UEESTiPgMS3pELk-RU3_yWdJfkLD580/s1600/IMG_2153.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiImksd9QDr9ddTcQypvrt1E6GNEPU5DCSdKTwBXvS6LDZ05BLu_hyS5QxdXDgh5fG-uiQfYcb9cQZXJ6h-uTNOVZ6RXlhiGmltSkAx8yL-I_r6UEESTiPgMS3pELk-RU3_yWdJfkLD580/s320/IMG_2153.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The next one was for my future sister in law...I love love love love how this one turned out. This is a much better shot so you can actually see the fabric detail. The colors just ended up being really fantastic together.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwOJ8RnTd-dYNlnosYhyZkUNdZse_DQYqfXqopH0AyVwdScDAYr0J5UKQsp02c1isC6NEHBCAI-DA-sA2jzIE3eTSAiLa02XX55Tp7WBaASivZ9zybNXE1XMGAsuBwgH4e0bY90pBPL6c/s1600/IMG_1665.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwOJ8RnTd-dYNlnosYhyZkUNdZse_DQYqfXqopH0AyVwdScDAYr0J5UKQsp02c1isC6NEHBCAI-DA-sA2jzIE3eTSAiLa02XX55Tp7WBaASivZ9zybNXE1XMGAsuBwgH4e0bY90pBPL6c/s320/IMG_1665.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
And last but not least, is the one I made for my Aunt Marilynne. The Wizard of Oz was always one of my faves as a kid. The accent strip here was a dark floral brown, and the tail has movie scenes all over it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqHXRvnzSxHFSGMJEIqdR0OZxYhTlczcqJXDsB1ckcho_TQWNUG7EWCIoItEPaFPdNdLUfc_PJNj1FcXT4SlB8uybTB8cFaN_AtfEWidesW1ugGZmj8ZoRcFxMgBESE721mUmiRWiSuCo/s1600/IMG_1664.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqHXRvnzSxHFSGMJEIqdR0OZxYhTlczcqJXDsB1ckcho_TQWNUG7EWCIoItEPaFPdNdLUfc_PJNj1FcXT4SlB8uybTB8cFaN_AtfEWidesW1ugGZmj8ZoRcFxMgBESE721mUmiRWiSuCo/s320/IMG_1664.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
My Aunt always signs letters, emails etc "Auntie M" and of course if any of you remember the movie..."Oh Auntie Em, there's no place like home..." Which is what the fabric says, with my small personalization. =)<br />
<br />
Feel free to share pillowcases you have made or personalized! Or email me and I can post them for you. Happy crafting!<br />

Not to mention purchasing her books of the same persuasion, and subsequently becoming enchanted with our friend the pin cushion. <br />

Using her tomato pincushion tutorial, I first made this...a slightly under stuffed(not intentionally lol) pirate version of her classic! <br />
<br />
<br />

Then came any fabric that amused me in the slightest, with a more basic
design (just varying sized circles running stitched by hand and then
tugged into cute little circles of pinned goodness...I promise I was not
using rocket science at this stage!)<br />

I love the lady bug fabric. I'd had it for probably 15 years or more in a plastic tub from a time before my current crafting spurt! <br />

And one of my favorite incarnations, made with a tuna can...The
sunflower is fashioned after the Plants vs Zombies game. I just drew the

Last but not least, is a felt needle book. I shaped it like a
classic old school coffin, added a cross and red rose button, and some
red felt for contrast on the side, al la classic Dracula satin lined
coffin...and wah lah! I love Halloween!<br />

I'm amused to see the geekery underneath the coffin. Clearly I was working on some Star Trek related craft lololol. <br />

<br />
This was my first stitching project...EVER! It was a gift that I received for a birthday when I was 5. Mom very patiently sat with me when I started this project, explaining exactly how to do everything I needed to know. I remember feeling very proud when we worked on the first portion of this because "I was sewing stuff" like she and Gram.<br />
<br />
Flash forward a couple of weeks or so. We hadn’t had time to sit and work on it together, so one day I decided that I would do it alone, and make her all proud! Now as you can see, starting on the bottom right, darker stitches begin to appear. And though you can’t tell from the pic, those stitches are 6 strands thick as opposed to the designated 3, hehe. I realized the mistakes after I had finised, but she didn't scold me when I confessed. She praised me for staying on the lines of my stitches, making sure the knot was on the bottom side of the fabric, and said that the change in color was ok since most cats weren’t all one color anyway. Aren't Moms awesome?!?! <br />

<br />
Hi! My name is Adiarra, and I am a pro<b>CRAFT</b>stinator. I have lists of projects/ideas a mile long taped in various stages all over my laBORatory walls, and piles of incomplete projects, stalled by lack of inspiration or getting distracted by a new idea that I just HAVE to try! Not to mention the extended breaks I’ve taken from crafting altogether which don’t really help those incomplete stacks decrease in size.<br />
<br />
On my 5th birthday I received a learn to stitch kit, and have loved stitching things for special occasions ever since. The kitty in my profile pic was my first project, and I assure you my abilities have progressed greatly from those early years!<br />
<br />
I also grew up watching both my Grams sew, and have periodically become intrigued with learning how to use my sewing machine somewhat proficiently. My most recent sewing break lasted about...oh...15 years...and was broken about 3 years ago, after an injury left me needing a way to help maintain my sanity, (not that I’m saying I’m completely sane) and rehabilitate my wrists and arms. <br />
<br />
My kept sanity has bestowed crafted joy, mostly of the geeky persuasion, upon friends and family, which I plan on sharing with all of you via blogs and tutorials(once I'm up to speed)...Well you know...all of you who actually find me...randomly blogging...somewhere on the interwebs...Be kind! I have NO idea what I'm doing!! This will be a learning experience, so constructive criticism and suggestions are welcome.<br />
<br />
Welcome to my blog!<br />
